Where we work

Plumbing marketing in Ontario

Ontario holds Canada's largest plumbing market and its most crowded search results. Winning here is about narrow geography, job-type focus and a cost-per-job target you defend every month.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Ontario is where plumbing marketing gets expensive. Open the map pack anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area and you'll usually see a crowd of plumbing companies bidding for the same searches, while Ottawa, Hamilton, London, Kitchener-Waterloo and Windsor are big markets in their own right. The companies that do well here don't outspend everyone. They choose their ground, track every call and make paid search, local SEO and reviews earn their keep.

The rules to know

The answer first: Ontario moved to a new building code at the start of 2025. The province's 2024 Ontario Building Code page says the code took effect January 1, 2025, with a grace period to March 31, 2025, for certain designs already under way.

Other bodies an Ontario plumbing owner deals with:

  • TSSA regulates fuels such as natural gas and propane, which matters if you install gas water heaters or do gas work alongside plumbing.
  • Skilled Trades Ontario handles apprenticeship and trade certification.

We link these and leave interpretation to them. Our job is making sure your site's credential claims are accurate.

Greater Toronto Area

The GTA is really a cluster of markets: the old city, Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough, plus Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Oakville and Durham Region. Each has its own competitors, and drive times between them are punishing at rush hour.

What we do differently here:

  • Campaigns by area cluster, never "Toronto" as one blob. A Mississauga shop doesn't pay for Scarborough clicks.
  • Strict negatives and job-type splits. Water heater, drain and emergency campaigns each run with their own budget.
  • Local Services Ads after an eligibility check, because in crowded markets a pay-per-lead channel can be easier to control than open bidding.
  • Reviews as a weapon. In a dense map pack, a steady stream of recent reviews is one of the few edges a small company can build cheaply.

Ottawa

Ottawa is a large market with a long, cold winter. It tends to reward companies that look established and reliable: a strong profile, a clean website with real crew photos, and clear terms. Some customers in Ottawa and the surrounding area will look for service in French; if you offer it, say so on the profile and site.

Hamilton, Niagara and Halton

Hamilton, Burlington, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls form a corridor where many customers compare GTA-style prices with local reputations. Area pages that are honestly local, mentioning your response time from the shop and jobs you've done there, separate you from Toronto firms advertising across the whole region.

Southwestern and Northern Ontario

London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph and Windsor are mid-sized markets where organic search and reviews can do more of the work. In Northern Ontario, from Sudbury and North Bay to Thunder Bay, winters are longer and colder, and distances between towns are large. There, the profile and honest service-area pages matter more than ad budget.

A worked number for Ontario

An illustration, not a client result. A three-truck company in Peel Region spends $5,500 a month on Google Ads across Mississauga and Brampton and gets 96 calls. Of those, 58 are qualified and the office books 37, so cost per booked job is about $149. A competitor spending twice as much on all of Peel books 40 jobs at $275 each. Focus beats budget. Our cost-per-booked-job guide shows how to run the same check on your account.

How we'd approach Ontario

  1. Choose your area clusters and two or three priority jobs.
  2. Fix tracking and the profile before raising spend.
  3. Build area pages only where we can say something real.
  4. Report monthly by cluster, so expansion is earned rather than guessed.

Our fees for Ontario clients carry 13% HST. See pricing.
