British Columbia is where Plumbing.Agency is based, and it's the province we know best. It's also the clearest example of why one plumbing marketing plan rarely fits a whole province. The Lower Mainland is crowded and costly. Vancouver Island runs on reputation and ferry schedules. The Okanagan and Kootenays have colder winters and their own seasonal rhythm. The Interior and North mean long drives and wide service areas. Below, region by region, is how we'd approach local search, paid search and campaigns for a BC plumbing company.
The rules to know (linked, not interpreted)
The answer first: the provincial code applies in most of BC, but not in the City of Vancouver. The province's 2024 BC Codes page explains that the National Plumbing Code plus B.C. amendments form the BC Plumbing Code 2024, officially Book II of the BC Building Code. The same page notes that BC Codes don't apply in the City of Vancouver, which has its own building bylaw.
Other bodies a BC plumbing owner hears about:
- Technical Safety BC covers gas, electrical, boilers and several other technologies. Its jurisdiction page doesn't list plumbing, but it matters if you also do gas fitting.
- SkilledTradesBC runs Skilled Trades Certification. As of October 2026 the compulsory list has seven trades, including Steamfitter/Pipefitter and Gasfitter Class A and B; Plumber isn't on it.
We don't advise on any of this. We make sure your website states your credentials accurately and links to where customers can check them.
Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
This is BC's biggest and most competitive plumbing market, from Vancouver, Burnaby and Richmond through Surrey, Coquitlam and Delta out to Langley, Abbotsford, Maple Ridge, Mission and Chilliwack. Expect many competitors on every core search.
How we'd approach it:
- Draw the map by drive time. A shop in Port Coquitlam can't promise Richmond the same response time as Coquitlam. Ads and area pages should reflect that.
- Split Vancouver out. Because the City of Vancouver runs its own building bylaw, we keep a Vancouver page separate and link the City for anyone who needs the rules.
- Strata is a buyer group. Dense condo and townhouse areas mean strata managers and councils hire plumbers too (see below).
- Job-type focus. Two or three high-value jobs, such as water heater replacement and repipes, usually beat bidding on every "plumber" search.
Vancouver Island
Victoria, Saanich and the West Shore around Langford make up the core, with Nanaimo, Courtenay, Campbell River, Duncan and Port Alberni up-Island. Word of mouth runs strong here, so a company with recent reviews and a well-kept profile can do well on a modest ad budget.
Island logistics matter for marketing: parts, crew travel and ferry timing limit what you can promise. We write response times and service areas you can actually meet, because a missed promise shows up in reviews quickly on a small island.
Okanagan
Kelowna, West Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton and Salmon Arm sit in the Interior, where winters run much colder and longer than on the southwest coast. Campaigns copied from a Vancouver account tend to run at the wrong time of year here. We set seasonal timing from each client's own call history, so budgets rise when your phone does.
Growth around Kelowna also brings builder and new-home work, which our commercial and new-construction service covers.
Kootenays
Cranbrook, Nelson, Castlegar, Kimberley and Trail are small markets with wide service areas. Here the Google Business Profile and reviews often do more than paid search. A plumber who answers the phone and shows up gets talked about. We keep ad budgets modest, focus on the profile and a handful of strong service pages, and make sure each town you serve is named honestly.
Interior: Thompson-Nicola and Cariboo
Kamloops is the anchor, with Merritt, Williams Lake and Quesnel spread across long highway distances. Travel time is the main constraint, so we often recommend clear call-out terms on the website. Customers then know before they call what a trip from Kamloops to an outlying property involves.
North
Prince George, Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Terrace and Prince Rupert face BC's coldest, longest winters across very large service areas. Smaller towns usually mean fewer competing plumbers on each search, so a complete profile and honest coverage pages can carry a lot of weight. If finding techs rather than finding customers is what holds you back, owner-level hiring strategy at plumber.consulting may matter more than another ad campaign.
Strata: a BC-sized opportunity
The province's strata housing page estimates that about 1.5 million people live in strata housing. That includes condos, townhouses, duplexes and bare-land strata homes. For a service plumber, strata managers and councils are a repeat buyer: one good relationship can mean many buildings.
We build a strata-friendly page that explains how you handle emergencies, access and invoicing. We don't write about who pays for which repair under strata rules. That's for the strata, its bylaws and its advisers.
Programs and tax
As of October 2026, CleanBC's Energy Savings Program lists income-based rebates for heat pump water heaters, and its rules changed for invoices dated on or after July 6, 2026. If you install heat pump water heaters, we can reference the program with a date and tell customers to confirm eligibility with the administrator. We never promise a rebate.
Our fees for BC clients carry 5% GST; BC PST applies only where it applies to the service. See pricing for the plans.
Proof with BC roots
These are results from our HVAC work, not plumbing results, but both are BC projects. On the boiler side, GasBoilers.ca was built as a gas-boiler division for CANRO Heat; it reaches 26+ BC communities and carries 5.0★ from 76+ Google reviews. BCWide.ca tripled its leads in 90 days. Frequently asked questions
Do BC plumbers have to be certified under Skilled Trades Certification?
As of October 2026, SkilledTradesBC's compulsory list covers seven trades, such as Steamfitter/Pipefitter and Gasfitter, and Plumber isn't one of them. Other rules may still apply to your work, so confirm your own obligations with SkilledTradesBC and your local authority.
Can we meet in person in BC?
Yes. We're headquartered in Vancouver and meet BC clients in person or online by video call, whichever you prefer, as well as by phone, text and email.
What sales tax do BC clients pay on your fees?
5% GST, as of October 2026. BC PST is added only where it applies to the service.
Is the Lower Mainland too expensive to advertise in?
It's expensive if you bid on everything. Narrow the towns to the ones you reach quickly, focus on two or three job types, and lean on your profile and reviews, and the numbers usually work.
